Saw Palmetto

Overview
Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) is a small palm native to the southeastern United States, prized for its medicinal properties, particularly in supporting prostate health. The berries of the plant are rich in bioactive compounds, including fatty acids and phytosterols, which are believed to help manage benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a common condition that causes an enlarged prostate and urinary issues in men. Saw palmetto is thought to work by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone associated with prostate enlargement and hair loss. It is also known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, which may further support urinary tract health. Beyond prostate care, saw palmetto is sometimes used to promote hair growth and balance hormone levels.
